Alpha 1.2.1 to Beta 2.0 Dev Log

Hey everyone,

Beta 2.0 is here, and it is the biggest update One Dice Dungeon Delve has ever shipped. This is the update where ODDD stops feeling like a prototype and starts feeling like a real game. A new boss with genuine AI, a full tutorial, a statistics dashboard, milestone leaderboards, a deeper cosmetics system, and a raft of bug fixes — including one that had quietly broken the Knight's Parry ability for longer than I want to admit.

THE GELATINOUS DICE

The flagship feature of Beta 2.0 is the Gelatinous Dice — ODDD's first true boss monster. It lives in the Floor 12 lair, and it fights unlike anything else in the dungeon. When it spots you in a straight corridor, it performs an Absorption Slide: it launches itself the entire length of the hallway, devouring every monster and every piece of loot in its path, converting them into temporary HP. Defeating it rewards two permanent run bonuses: Slime Coating (survive one fatal blow at 1 HP) and Second Dice (roll two dice per attack, keep the higher). It also permanently unlocks the Silly Hats cosmetic toggle.

TUTORIAL — A scripted 8-step tutorial with a hand-crafted dungeon covering movement, melee, ranged, looting, stairs, Minotaur fight, Knight Parry, and a scripted Dragon encounter with custom dialogue.

MILESTONE LEADERBOARDS — Three new tabs: First Minotaur Kill, First Dragon Kill, First Gelatinous Dice Kill — ranked by fastest run time to that first kill.

STATISTICS PAGE — Full career stat dashboard with kill breakdowns, best scores, deepest floors, and clickable "baseball card" featured runs.

UI AND INPUT OVERHAUL — Button prompts now consistent across every screen with auto-detected Keyboard, Xbox controller, and Steam Deck (in progress) icon switching. Beta 2.0 version string persists as a bottom-right overlay on every screen.

COSMETICS — Back cosmetics added (Backpack → Ascended Wings at floor milestones). Boot unlocks corrected and expanded. Run Timer unlocked by first Dragon kill.

BUG FIXES — Knight Parry permanently re-enabled (logic inversion fixed). Loot drops corrected across all lair types. Leaderboard text clipping cleaned up. Absorbed-monster stale tile guard added.

UNDER THE HOOD — Development moved from Blackbox AI to Claude + Gemini CLI. The improvement in code consistency and bug diagnosis was immediate — the Parry fix, Gelatinous Dice AI architecture, and statistics system were all built or repaired under this new workflow.

Thanks for playing, and good luck on Floor 12.

WHAT'S NEXT

The big news is that we're officially bringing One Dice Dungeon Delve to Steam at the end of this month! This is a massive step for me, and it unlocks a ton of cool new features we've been dreaming of implementing. We're finally going to have global leaderboards powered by Steam, so you can see how your best runs stack up against everyone else in the world. Your Steam username will automatically be used, so you'll get bragging rights instantly. And for all of you who have been supporting us here on Itch.io, don't worry! The Steam version will let you import your runs, and you'll even get a special 'Itch.io

Hero' tag on the leaderboards to show you were here from the early days.

We're also adding daily challenge leaderboard prizes for the top 10, 25, and 50 players, plus a whole slew of Steam Achievements to hunt down. But what I'm personally most excited about is a brand new mode:

Community Baton Passing dungeons! This will be a shared dungeon experience where the community passes a single run from player to player, trying to survive as long as possible together. It's an experiment, but I think it's going to be wild. On top of all that, we're expanding controller support beyond just Xbox and adding support for multiple languages to make the game more accessible for everyone. It's a huge update, and we can't wait for you to get your hands on it.
